In 1895, the Italian oenologist Federico Martinotti, from the Province of Asti, invented the world famous method for sparkling wine based on controlled fermentation in large vats. 20 miles away and a little over 50 years later, Acquesi was founded in Acqui Terme, Piedmont in 1952. The name Acquesi refers to the small town of Acqui Terme where the winery is based – in the Belle Epoque era it was renowned for its Liberty style architecture (the Italian version of Art Nouveau), and its ideals of elegance, joy and ornamental detail, and this is reflected in the beautiful, intricate design of the etched bottles, which are an absolute show-stopper. The winery is focused solely on the production of top quality sparkling wines and is one of Italy’s most awarded and celebrated sparkling producers.
